Eva Neufeld, PhD

Dr. Eva Neufeld is an early career health systems researcher with the Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research (CRaNHR) at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario. She completed her PhD in Health Studies and Gerontology (Aging, Health and Well Being) within the School of Public Health and Health Systems at the University of Waterloo. Eva holds an MA from Simon Fraser University (Gerontology), a BA from Laurentian University (Gerontology), and a BA from the University of Windsor (Psychology).

Eva’s research interests are in the field of mental health and aging, with particular focus on late-life depression, suicide prevention, risk assessment and mental health in primary care settings using quantitative research techniques. She is currently developing a program of applied health research with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Lakehead University, the North East LHIN, and the North East CCAC.

Eva is a member of the interRAI Network of Excellence in Mental Health (iNEMH) and conducts research using the interRAI Community Mental Health (CMH) Assessment instrument and the interRAI Mental Health (MH) Assessment instrument for Inpatient Psychiatry. She is the first to examine suicide-related behaviour among older adults receiving home care services in Ontario. This research was performed with the interRAI Home Care Assessment instrument (HC), which was linked to Ontario hospital administrative data (e.g., Discharge Abstract Database, National Ambulatory Care Reporting System, Ontario Mental Health Reporting System). Several publications from this research are in progress.
